Welcome to Troop 59!

Troop 59 has been active in Greenbrae and Kentfield, California, since  1955. The Troop provides many opportunities for our scouts to be active in outings and trips, community service, and to grow and develop themselves and their skills.  From river rafting to camping, from hiking to skiing, we offer a full schedule of events.

Scoutmaster Message from Bruce Brugler (below):

 February 28, 2010

Happy New Year to everyone!  I hope that the holidays were enjoyable and that 2010 is off to a good start (despite having to be back in school!).  Troop 59's calendar has a lot on it for the rest of the year, starting with the Ski Trip on Jan 30-31 (watch for details on that coming soon).

We're going to start a new program for the older Scouts in T59 called the T59 High Adventure Patrol, a program aimed at giving our most experienced Scouts the ability to participate in more challenging outings that will allow them to put their Scouting skills to work.
While participants will remain in their current patrols, they will also work together to plan such events several times per year (or more!).
This should be a great way for the Troop's older Scouts to continue to develop in Scouting and take part in activities that we can't do as a full Troop.

To qualify for the High Adventure Patrol, a Scout will have to be both in high school, have achieved the rank of First Class, and be in good standing in the Troop (meaning that they are an active participant in normal Troop activities).  The following is a list of who is currently eligible (please let me know if I've omitted anyone):

Tommy Burkhard
Antoine PV
Taylor Sherman
Duncan Brugler
Brendan Davidson
Michael Swalberg
Ben Abouchar
Andrew Carothers
Evan Goldstein
Aaron Goodman
Connor Hansen
Jonathan Van Ness
Ryan Gumm
Dylan Kaufman
Joe Barton
Aaron Rosas

We will have a brief meeting at the end of the Troop meeting next Wednesday, Jan 13 to talk about the High Adventure Patrol and start to think about a first activity.  If you're eligible and are interested in participating please let me know, plan on attending the meeting, and start to think about what you'd like to do (kayaking, rock climbing, ropes course, backpack trip, etc).

See you all next week!

Mr. Brugler

Troop 59 has had an active start to 2010! Thanks to the efforts of many people, youth and adult, we've had a number of very successful events including the ski trip to Heidelmann Lodge and a memorable Banquet/COH. It's inspiring to see how many people are willing to give their time and efforts to Scouting - think of George Dom, who despite knowing nobody in the Troop was willing to dedicate a full evening of his time and drive far out of his way to discuss the importance of a single word: Trust. We're lucky to see again and again how often members of the Troop 59 community demonstrate the principles of Scouting, such as Mr. Dom's discussion of a part of the Scout Law, Sam Mix's demonstration of how to "Be Prepared", and the outpouring of support from the T59 community following the tragic loss of one of our own. Scouting teaches us many lessons that help us on a daily basis, in good times and in bad.

I was very pleased to have introduced the Sam Mix "Be Prepared" award at the recent COH, with Antoine PV being the first T59 Scout to wear the rope around his shoulder. This award will be passed on at each Court of Honor to the T59 Scout who has demonstrated outstanding Scout Spirit and willingness to help the Troop.

With spring almost upon us there will be a lot of T59 activities in the months ahead - let's make the most of them!
