Troop Places First at Klondike Derby 2018

Congratulations to Troop 59 for winning first place at Marin Sierra's 2018 Klondike Derby! The Yeti Hunters patrol met three times before the competition in preparation for the event, building their skills for scenarios including saving someone on thin ice, building a shelter out of snow, and sledge racing. Ned Farnkopf, Troop Scoutmaster, said, "The conditions were harsh this year, with 3-4 feet of fresh snow and nighttime temperatures around 16 degrees," but Troop 59 Scouts were still able to place first in the council-wide competition! Thank you to these Troop 59 scouts who participated: Noah Tyler, SPL; Henry Pritchard, ASPL; William Abela George Hamill; Owen Pritchard; Bradley Williams; Jack Williams; Casper Wilson; and Graham Wilson. Also, thank you to adult leaders Mr. Pritchard, Mr. Wilson, and Mr. Farnkopf. This event is a perfect example of where fun and education mix in Scouting, and Scouts eagerly anticipate next year's competition!
